コロナ禍で、２０２０年からの私の個展開催は、中止を余儀なくされてしまいました。
私も医師として、COVID-19が猛威を奮い続ける中、この致死的ウイルスと闘ってきました。
医療仲間とともに、コロナ患者様の命を救うために苦闘する毎日でした。
アートのことを考える暇もありませんでした。
この悲しく辛い日々の間、私の描き貯めた作品たちは、私の部屋の片隅の大きな箱の中で、静かに時を待っておりました。
今、最悪のコロナ禍の時期が過ぎ、ついに私は個展を開くことになりました。
今回のHealing Smiles 第５回目のテーマは、子供の笑顔を「猫・犬と一緒に」と「花と一緒に」の各第１部になります。
個展会場に足を運んで下さった皆様が、私の作品をご覧になって、笑顔になっていただけたらと思います。
 

The COVID-19 pandemic prevented my exhibition from opening in 2020. As a medical doctor I fought the deadly virus, while the crisis continued to grow. My colleagues and I struggled daily to save its victims. Because of this, I had no time to think about Art. During sad and difficult days, all my works waited quietly; stored in a large box, in a corner of my apartment.
Now that the worst has passed, I can open my show at last. The exhibition will feature Healing Smiles series No.5, Smiling Child with Cat & Dog (Part1) and with Flower (Part 1) series. My hope that visitors to my show will smile when they see my latest artworks.
 

第４回目のテーマは,「自然の中の子供たち」です。
 
自然の生み出す景色は、それだけでも素晴らしいものです。
でも、そこに笑顔で遊んでいる子供がいれば、それは最高の奇跡になります。
 
私は、今回、自然と笑顔の子供をコラボレーションさせながら、全ての作品を、非常に楽しく描くことができました。
 
我々は、自然の子供です。自然は我々のすべてを包み込んでくれます。
そして、我々の‘内なる子供’は、掛け替えのない、心からの笑顔の力で、呼び覚まされるのかもしれないですね。

Of Nature’s wonders and scenic splendors,
the most inspiring of all is a child at play, enjoying it all with a smile.
 
It gave me great pleasure to produce this latest series, of “Children in Nature,” becoming one with its awesome beauty,
 
We are its children. Nature embraces us all. Our inner child might be awakened, by the precious power of a happy smile”

 

Healing Smiles No.3のテーマは、民族衣装です。
 
子供たちは、生まれ育った国の伝統的な衣装を身につけながら、母国の文化や歴史を、誇りを持って認識していきます。
 
民族衣装には、民族の数だけ、多種多様な素晴らしい形・模様・色があります。
 
民族衣装を身に纏うことで、地球上の全ての子供たちは、「自分とは何者か？」（アイデンティティー）を自分なりに確立して行き、
その子らしい笑顔をたくさん見せてくれます。
 
それぞれの子供たちの未来が、どうかキラキラと輝きますように。
 

National Costume is the theme of Healing Smiles No.3.
 
From childhood, each person can celebrate each own country’s unique culture and history by wearing traditional dress.
 
The wonderful array of form, pattern and colorfully expresses mankind’s diversity.
 
Wearing their own national costume gives children around the globe a sense of identity, and many reasons to smile.
 
May the future of each child shine brilliantly.

 

子供たちには、思いっきり大きな夢を抱いて欲しい。
子供たちには、実現不可能な夢という言葉はないって言ってあげたい。

 

どんなに過酷な環境に生きていても、
どんなに難しい条件が立ちはだかっていても、
そんなものどうにでもなる。

 

大人たちは、そんなものどうにでもしてやるという気持ちで、
子供たちの夢の後押しを、大いにしてあげたいものです。

 

今、私は　子供たちが将来なりたい職業をテーマに　
笑顔いっぱいの子供たちに、その職業のユニフォームを着せて描いています。
勿論、いつもどおりにモデルはいません。
私の心に湧いてくるイメージで、夢いっぱいの、笑顔の子供たちを描いています。
その子供たちの夢の実現を、心から祈りながら。

Children can dream anything.
I want to tell them that surely all their dreams will come true.
 
Living under very difficult situations and innumerable hardships might hinder their progress, but they should not be discouraged.
 
We adults must devote ourselves to making it possible for their dreams to be realized.
 
My pictures of smiling children, working happily in their dream-jobs, represent all children, not portraits of individual children.
 
Each springs from my mind as an inspiration; a prayer for all children.
 
May all their dreams come true.

 

子供たちは地球のかけがえのない宝物です。その子供たちの笑顔は地球の希望の宝物です。

 

世界中には、あらゆる状況下に生きている子供たちがいます。愛に満たされ、幸せな子供たちもいます。しかし、戦火、飢餓、孤独、貧困、病気などに苦しんでいる子供たちも沢山います。

 

子供たちの笑顔を守りたい。子供たちの笑顔を取り戻したい。子供たちの笑顔に救われる。全ての子供たちの笑顔には素晴らしい力があります。その笑顔は恵まれない状況下に生きる子供たちをサポートしたいという純粋な気持ちを導き、きっと世界の人たちを繋げていくはずです。

 

私は、その子供の笑顔の力を信じて、世界中の子供たちの笑顔を描きつづけています。モデルはいません。長年、世界の子供たちを医師として診察する機会に恵まれて参りましたので、様々な国の子供たちの元気で楽しそうな笑顔が、私の心にいつもいます。私は、それを絵にしているのです。

 

私は、子供の笑顔の絵を個展の形で展示販売させて頂き、売り上げの一部を、中村安秀医師率いるNPO　HANDSのプロジェクトに寄付して参ります。その残額を元に新しい作品を作り続け、更なる寄付を継続して参りたいと存じます。

The world’s greatest treasures are its children, whose precious smiles have the power to disarm strife and suffering, and to unite people from all around the globe in the sprit of hope.
 
My pictures of smiling children are not portraits of individuals. They spring from my mind as inspirations—imagined children from all around the globe enjoying health and happiness.
 
My goal is to help relieve our children from hunger and sickness by donating a portion of the sales of my work to the nonprofit organization HANDs, operating under the able leadership of Doctor Yasuhide Nakamura.
